I was relieved to have made it quickly and efficiently to the train station. The taxi was a fabulous idea! I would’ve never have been able to walk that far with my bag and not have gotten lost. Upon arriving early, I had plenty of time before my train arrived.
While there, I met another South Korean woman, but she was traveling to another Spanish destination and not Madrid. So, we couldn’t travel together. It was quite a coincidence to meet another Korean in Spain.
Back to my trip. After finding my seat on the train, I focused on relaxing and enjoying the ride. It was a little difficult as it was warm, and the air conditioning was intermittent as was the train. We had about 3 interruptions and had to wait for about an hour at one point because of a malfunction. Of course, the air didn’t work during those times. I kept looking out of the window at the desert landscape to divert my attention. I was amazed how much of it reminded me of parts of Phoenix, Arizona, where I mostly grew up. The heat wasn’t as dry, but it was familiar. I was sweating a lot and really wished I had had extra water to cool me down after I drank my last bottle. The trip wasn’t supposed to be that long and I had planned on being in Madrid before regular dinner time.
This taught me that I needed to take extra food and water whenever I travel, especially since I am vegan and gluten-free and food options are not great. I had eaten a bag of gluten-free chips that I found in a machine earlier. I was grateful for that. There were no eating establishments open at the connecting train station.
After the last break down, the train mercifully started, again, and the air came back on. That was a relief. I could tell we were getting closer to “civilization” as more and more buildings were appearing. (The southern part of Spain where I was heading from is known for its olive and olive oil production so there were lots of olive tree farms but not buildings.) At one point, I was surprised to see a cloud formation that looked like Snoopy greeting me as I got closer to Madrid. Not sure if anyone else has had this experience but this is the second time that I distinctly remember clouds in an animal shape when traveling. The first time I can recall vividly was when I was moving from Phoenix to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As I approached the southern portion of Arizona, I could see what looked like a huge teddy bear! I didn’t stop to take a picture as I was on an interstate highway, and it didn’t seem advisable to stop along the busy freeway to take photos.
This time, though, I had my hands free, and I was able to take photos of Snoopy greeting me. It was such a special moment. I would’ve never have imagined Snoopy greeting me as I was approaching Madrid, Spain! See the photo above and see if you can see him in the clouds. It is very special for nature to greet us. This seems to be a recurring event wherein if I am on the right path, nature is there encouraging me along. Hope you have had such serendipitous, lovely moments!
